Harmonix keeps on Rock'n

XBOX 360 Rock Band 2

Officially announced over the weekend, EA will be bringing back the "first rock game that allows you to play guitar, sing, or drum".

The sequel, due out in September for the XBOX 360, and to be later released on the PS3 is the follow-up to last years smashing success.  Developer Harmonix, creator of Guitar Hero, is stating that they have made vast improvements to the game play, both the single player tour, and the band tour.  Also they are guaranteeing a better set list right out of the box, (including more female artists) but is remaining tight lipped on the actual music.  The most impressive thing that I saw from the interview is that all down-loadable content (DLC) from Rock Band will be compatible with Rock Band 2.

There is lot of chatter about the fact that the 360 version being available before the PS3 version.  One, official release dates for the game will probably be released at E3 in a few weeks.  Second, if the plan holds as stated, it will likely be linked to two things, first, the original 360 version had no wireless instruments.  So any potential peripheral upgrades would be more marketable to 360 owners.  Third, assuming the staggered release, you can chalk it up to the 360's larger install base, and ease of programming.

But EA being the revenue @#$*% it is, will not forget about the success of Rock Band on the PS3.
