On Wednesday Senator Max Baucus (D-MT) unveiled his long-awaited "compromise bill" on health care financing reform. Below the fold are links to the bill and people's reaction to it. I will analyze the bill and compare it to other proposals Monday.
Here are links to the 223-page bill that Senator Baucus introduced yesterday and which the Senate Finance Committee will consider, and various reactions to the bill.
1. America's Healthy Future Act, introduced by Senator Baucus;
2. A press release from Senator Baucus describing the bill;
3. The reaction from the Wall Street Journal;
4. Ezra Klein's article on five ways to improve the bill;
5. Articles from HuffingtonPost, FiveThirtyEight, and TalkingPointsMemo describing largely negative reaction to the bill;
6. Senator Jay Rockefeller's letter to Senator Max Baucus and Senator Chuck Grassley objecting specifically to the bill's proposal to use "co-ops" in place of a public insurance program, contending that co-ops have been a failure in other fields.
I will try to get through most of this material by Monday and offer some comparative analysis to the other bills that have been introduced in Congress.
