Browns draft interest list

Posted April 17th, 2008 by Dan

As the NFL Draft approaches, the biggest question is about which players the Browns are showing an interest in. After the jump, there is a list I've been putting together of players the Browns have brought in for private workouts or brought into Cleveland.

NFL teams are allotted 30 private workouts. That means I don't have everyone the team has looked at. Also, players who either played college or high school football in the Browns' region don't count toward the 30 and are in italics. There is no limit, to my knowledge, on the visitations.

Private workout
Zackary Bowman, CB, Nebraska
Brandon Carr, CB, Grand Valley State
Reggie Corner, CB, Akron
Brad Cottam, TE, Tennessee
Jermichael Finley, TE, Texas
Mike Galassi, OL, Walsh
Pierre Garcon, WR, Mount Union

Charles Godfrey, CB, Colorado
John Greco, OT, Toledo
Curtis Johnson, LB, Clark Atlanta
LaRoi Johnson, TE, Malone
Jason Jones, WR, Arkansas Pine Bluff
Malcolm Kelly, WR, Oklahoma
James Lee, OL, South Carolina State
Joey Larocque, OLB, Oregon State
Antwaun Molden, CB, Eastern Kentucky
Eddie Pinigis, OL, Liberty
Orlando Scandrick, CB, Boise State
Mike Schepp, OL, Akron
Craig Stevens, TE, California
Brian Witherspoon, CB, Stillman College

Brought into Cleveland for an interview:
Josh Barrett, SS, Arizona State
Beau Bell, LB, UNLV
Cory Boyd, RB, South Carolina
Tyvon Branch, CB, Connecticut
Gary Butler, OLB, California (Pa.)
Gosder Cherilus, G, Boston College
Thaddeus Coleman, OT, Mississippi Valley State
Jolonn Dunbar, LB, Boston College
Quentin Groves, DE, Auburn
Paul Hubbard, WR, Wisconsin
Tyrell Johnson, SS, Arkansas State
Stanford Keglar, OLB, Purdue
Bryan Kehl, LB, Brigham Young
Brandon Keith, OL, Northern Iowa
Kendall Langford, DE, Hampton
Jerod Mayo, MLB, Tennessee
Jordy Nelson, WR, Kansas State
Owen Schmitt, FB, West Virginia
Steve Slaton, RB, West Virginia
Darnell Terrell, CB, Missouri
Donald Thomas, G, Connecticut
Mario Urrutia, WR, Louisville
Patrick Wells, DB, Ferris State
Terrence Wheatley, CB, Colorado
Jack Williams, CB, Kent State

Also keep an eye on defensive end/outside linebacker Vincent Redd of Liberty and safety Corey Lynch of Appalachian State. General manager Phil Savage has reportedly shown a lot of interest in both players.

any word on if the browns are going to be looking for another alternative lifestyle quarterback to back up Anderson and Queen? Colt Brennan might still be on the board come round 9 when the Browns first pick rolls around.

  2. Luke Says:

A lot of those names were formalities for the local guys, like Galassi, Molden, etc. I hope the Browns take a shot on Corey Lynch, but his draft stock is rising.

  3. Josh Says:

The Browns will end up with a Pro Bowler out of the 4 picks they have this year… watch and see. Savage will pull a rabbit out of his hat.

The fact that the Browns arent picking in the early rounds is a good thing. We're young enough from past drafts, and now is the time to fill holes and get ready to contend, which they have done.

  4. Dan Says:

Interesting theory, Josh. So interesting, I'm going to make a whole post about my opinion on it!

  5. Jack Stephens Says:

The TE out of malone college is a good player. He has real good size and unbelievable hands. I read his article on line and he seems like a great kid. He would be a long shot but he seems like he would be a nice addition to the TE's we have.
