Still need Cowboys tickets?

Friday, September 5th, 2008

No, I'm not giving them away. You can still get some great tickets to Sunday's game through Stub Hub. Prices go from $75 to $560. Even the low-end price is ridiculous, so I'll pass. In fact, I'll probably pass every week because the NFL is probably the worst sport to attend live. No, that does not include lame sports like indoor soccer. Sorry, Cleveland Force. Are they even still around? Whatever.

Look for the Browns/Cowboys preview sometime tomorrow. It'll either be before or after the Zips game against Syracuse. For more on that, as always, read Mike Rasor's blog.

If you're really hankering for some Cowboys talk, Beacon Journal sports writer George Thomas has filed his latest video entry over on the ABJ Browns blog. It will only be up until tomorrow at noon, so make sure to check it out now. George told me today there will be a lot of Browns video, so make sure to always look on the Browns blog or around Ohio.com for the latest.

Here is the USA Today game preview. I would tell you Danny Sheridan's odds on the game, but I have no earthly idea how to read that nonsense. If you could fill me in, that would be great. This should go to show you how much I illegally bet.

Captains announced

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

Amid the excitement of linebacker Antwan Peek going down for the season, yesterday's announcement of the team captains has been somewhat overlooked. They are Derek Anderson and Hank Fraley on offense, Willie McGinest and Andra Davis on defense and Joshua Cribbs and Phil Dawson on special teams. Anderson and Cribbs are new captains this year.

For Cribbs in particular, this is a great accomplishment. It's not a tag given to a player just for their on-field excellence. It is awarded to a player teammates look up to. As an undrafted player, team captaincy probably means more to Cribbs than any Pro Bowl invitation.

Back to the Peek situation really quickly. How does this affect the Browns? Not a whole lot. Peek isn't considered a starter. And, the team was able to bring back Shantee Orr. Alex Hall and Orr will probably split whatever duties Peek had. For Peek, this is probably the end of the road.

Notes…
Season previews are beginning to role in. See what the Columbus Dispatch has to say about the Browns.

The Toledo Blade ran the AP preview. You've probably already read that, though.

Look for the Akron Beacon Journal's season preview this weekend.

Comments from the opposition

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

Tim McMahon of the Dallas News wrote a interesting article about the similarities between the Browns and Cowboys.  The two offenses statistically are incredibly close.

Rick Gosselin of the Dallas News also breaks down the Cowboys and Browns matchup.  He talks about how Jamal Lewis and Kellen Winslow will likely force Cowboys safety Roy Williams into a tough situation.

Rick Herrin of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram gives a nice breakdown on Sunday's matchup, including his plan for the Cowboys will defend Braylon Edwards.

Practice squad announced

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

As reported today by Marla Ridenour, the Browns announced their eight-man practice squad.

Players released by the Browns to make the squad were Nathan Bennett (OL), Travis Key (S), Lance Leggett (WR), Steve Sanders (WR) and Melila Purcell (DL).

The team picked up linebacker Titus Brown, running back Omar Cuff and offensive lineman Christian Gaddis. The team also added offensive lineman Scott Young to the 53-man roster after he was waived by the Eagles.

Brown is an enticing addition. He played defensive end at Mississippi State but went undrafted this year. He was in camp with the Dolphins.

Still, barring injuries, it's unlikely any of these players will break onto the team.
