  1. mark o. worrell Says:

i have no desire to start with an also ran, or a newbie…champions to get that way by hiring losers and wannabe's

personally, marty should be given full reign and i guarantee we are in the playoffs next year with smash-mouth football

  2. mark o. worrell Says:

if we are going with someone new then ask bernie kosar if he'd like the coaching job…the fans support him, and he's the last guy to draw a play up in the dirt that won a ballgame (and allowed bill the barf to filet the team)

outside of that, marty or bill to save the franchise

with no modell arounfd to crank them out of shape, these two — either one — are the fans pick. period.

because other than that, i care less and less every day

  3. Ralph Gizzip Says:

I don't think it's prudent to decide on a coach when you don't even have a general manager. Obviously Mr. Lerner doesn't know football so he needs to hire a GM that has proven he can build a winning team. The new GM is then responsible for hiring a head coach to run the operations on the field.

The GM hire needs to happen soon so they'll have time to evaluate the current roster for fit and talent level. There's a decent crop of kids coming out this spring and we're sitting at #5. If he's available I'd like the Browns to take that LB from USC.

  4. Roy Says:

    Bring back Marty!

  5. modellsux Says:

    Marty………

  6. Rustbelt Says:

Ralph G is right, GM first then the Head Coach. Lerner needs to get the best football man he can, give him his charge and let him get it done. If he doesn't perform, Randy has a decision to make.

  7. Mike Says:

Mike Shanahan is now available. Experienced head coach who knows how to win. We need to not get anymore of Belechick's boys.

  8. Craig S. Says:

Shanahan was just let go in Denver.

    Dear Randy,

If you have any football smarts at all, go after this guy right now because he will not be unemployed for long. Other teams may even fire their coaches just to get this guy.

  9. Ed Says:

Schottenheimer or Shanahan. NO COORDINATORS! HAVE WE FORGOTTEN SO QUICKLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Mike Says:

McKay because of the experience and his desire to be GM

Shanahan, Schott or Billick for their experience. Whomever has the most desire, you grab him as next coach.

  11. Jeff Says:

    BRING BACK BILL BELICHEK.

  12. Rodney Says:

Mike Shanahan would be a good choice.

  13. spd Says:

Mike Shanahan just got the ax in Denver. Bring him here!

  14. TS S. Fulk Says:

    Shanahan!!!!

  15. Teddy Roos Says:

I agree with several others. Shanahan needed a change and this would be a great place to restart his engine.

  16. ThomDarden Says:

NO MARTY! There is a reason why he was not given another job this past year. If you can't get hired in this "good ol' boys" network called the NFL you are done. Hire SHANNY! With this O-Line he will run the ball down the Steelers throat. This guy is a winner and has more respect around the NFL than Marty will ever have..

  17. Nancy Says:

    Marty – Marty – Marty!

  18. rayy Says:

    Marty–

Kosar hasn't done anything football-related for many years.

  19. Don Juan Says:

losers for life……why did we even bring back the pain and suffering which escalates to hostility, anger and depression every year….go zips!!!!!!!!!!

  20. Dave Says:

If anyone would do some research, including Lerner, they would know that every Belichick associate has failed after leaving New England. Pioli's top choice for coach is Kirk Ferentz – doesn't that say enough right there???? How about a strong, successful GM in his own right NOT associated with Belichick. Let him advise on the coach, even a young, successful coordinator that the GM can work with and guide and one that wants to coach the Browns. If you do the research, the answer is there: GM – Floyd Reese; HC – Jim Schwartz. It won't happen, but it should.

  21. fred Says:

ryan and mckay!!!!lets get real football men who will give all they got and lead these kids to there utmost ability.

  22. Carbunkle Says:

    Marty.

And if I were Lerner, I wouldn't give up on Cowher just yet. Perhaps Cowher was testing Lerner, to see his reaction to a refusal. To see if Lerner has the fire in his belly to get the job done, and won't take no for an answer.

  23. modellsux Says:

Why in the world would anyone want Shanahan?

Because he scarfed up all the Browns' rejects (Courtney Brown, anyone?)? Because he has the same power hungry attitude as Butch Davis?

No Shanahan. He's a legend in his own mind.

Marty knows Cleveland. Marty is a winner…with something to prove. And, if he is the HC and Braylon drops another bunny?

    Off with his hands!!!

    That's Marty…

  24. ko Says:

    SHANAHAN…………… now!

  25. McK Says:

What about Jason Garrett as a head coach?

  26. jimk Says:

how about bernie kozar gm, mike shanan coach

  27. AMLL Says:

    Mike Ditka!

  28. Old Man Grump Says:

Marty S would at least get the Browns to the playoffs and he's not even on the list.

  29. Randy Colian Says:

I think we need Pioli as GM. However, if Parcells is available we should grab him. Mangini could be the next Bellicheck of the NFL, made mistakes and then went to another team and became successful!!!!

  30. Mac Mckenzie Says:

Mike Shanahan should be next coach

  31. SLeeve Says:

Keep trying for Cowher or Shanahan! No questions asked and do it soon!!!!

  32. RadioDoc Says:

Shanahan is best CURRENTLY available. However, there are already rumblings that Dallas will fire Phillips and replace him with Shanahan. Phillips wouldn't be a "bad" selection if that happened. "Marty II" would be a decent choice, but not necessarily a long term solution. Cowher isn't coming because he doesn't want to coach in the AFC. Gregg Williams wouldn't be a bad choice – former Buffalo HC, and a great defensive mind.

I agree with those above, it has to be someone with Head Coach experience. As good as McDaniels et. al. may be … this franchise is a disaster right now, and needs someone with that kind of experience to right the ship before the helm is turned over to a coordinator. For example, sign Marty to a three-year deal, with Josh McDaniels as his O-coordinator. Then, after the team is atleast SCORING and maybe (gasp!) winning… Marty will likely be ready to roam again, and McDaniels can step up at that time.

  33. Timbo Says:

I say go to the scrap heap, retrieve the old stadium pieces-parts, rebuild it on the lakefront and then bring MartyBall back. That's when men were men, Dawgs had bite, and visiting Squeeler fans were scared toothless.

  34. Joe Says:

Marty, Marty, Marty, Thats the one. Model's not around to pull his crap!!!!! Marty wants Cleveland to win the big one and he needs to win it 5 or 6 times, after all you know its time. Give him full control !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lerner should not be doing a knee jerk and just run out and get anyone……I don't know who lerner is listening to, but I can tell you, he's not on the right track !!!!!!!

  35. fastdogone Says:

Marty, I'd take losing in the AFC championship game over this crappy record stuff year after year. Mike Shanahan would be choice #2, in his offense, I could run the ball and get 1,000 yards. Don't pick another Defensive Coordinator that hasn't been a head coach and can't put together a decent defense. Been there done that! Cleveland will tolerate a good to great offense with a crappy defense, been doing it since 60's, but not a crappy defense and offense!

  36. Abdul Hazim Says:

Lerner needs to take a slice out of his own success: Bring Marty O'Neill over from Aston Villa. Then they can have Brad Friedel back in Cleveland where he started and belongs.

  37. Joe (az) Says:

Lerner needs to not react and think about it !!!!!!!!!!!!!! don't keep doing same old crap over and over. Marty is still the most winest coach in history and he wants to bring the big one to cleveland !!!!!!! it my take a few years, but at lest they won't be loosing one's.. If you add up all the money lerner will fork out and go nowhere, he would be ahead of it all by just getting Marty back and give him the key's to the kingdom !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All the one's lerner is looking at all started out in cleveland and they don't have a the record Marty has !!!!!! just remember one thing on why marty left to begin with, Model….. If marty wouldn't have gone, he would of still been winning in cleveland and who knows how many S.B. rings they would have by now. Remember the problem wasn't maty, IT WAS MODEL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  38. Joe (az) Says:

    Dear Mr. Lerner
The one's that you pay to advise you are over payed and under quilified. You yourself need to take the time and look at the history the Browns !!!!!!!!!!! The only coach that could bring back the wins and pride of OUR team is Mr. Marty Shotinhimer. He did not want to leve the Browns, It was MODEL !!!!!! So give Marty A call and get your head out of your……… and let Marty finish what MODEL SCREWED UP.
O, and Mr. Lerner, maybe you better look at who your friends really are, am sure its not the ones in the NFL that you listen to, BECAUSE THEIR WINNING AND YOUR NOT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  39. Joe Papadovich Says:

Marty Schottenheimer as Coach you knuckleheads!

  40. Jim Green Says:

Schottenheimer took the Chargers from tail-enders to playoffs. He's got the winningest record of available head coaches and has the drive to turn Cleveland around. Why he's not even on the PD's list of candidates tells me something about their sports reporting. Cower is and was, his last year, unmotivated to win…he'll just go back to the broadcast booth. Who wants somebody who has to be begged back? Schottenheimer is hard to work with but our owner is hands off anyway. Schottenheimer is our best shot at turning this team around. Lets stop being the NFL's training center for coordinators and get a proven winner with the history and record to prove it.

  41. PSUgradstudent Says:

Shanahan definately. The Browns have a lot of natural talent at the WR, TE, QB, and on the O-Line. He has proven that he has the ability to maintain a stable running game. It would also be a big help to the University of Akron to hire Shanahan because of his ties to JD.

  42. Joe (az) Says:

    Dear Mr. Lerner
Why are you looking at Larry,Curly and Moe when you know, all you have to do is call Schottenheimer !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! keep listen to your buds in the NFL and you won't win. and for all you knuckleheads……Marty didn't loose those big games with Denver, the team did, Marty took them there.

  43. Keith Griffin Says:

Hire Mckay and then let him select the Head Coach.

  44. Dan Says:

Definitely Shanahan. He's available and we need him. He's a winner. If not him I say bring back Marty. Please no more bill bellyache! Remember what he did to Brian Brennan for Art Modell.

  45. Becky Says:

I think it would be awesome to have Marty back. Cleveland has let a lot of winning coaches go. Of course Jim Donovan always seems to have the answers. Lets see what he can do and then when he sees how hard it is to coach a winning team maybe he will shut his big fat mouth. I do think Marty would be great. He was good for Cleveland before and now that Modell doesn't have Cleveland, it could work.

  46. mike b. Says:

Go Get Shanahan Randy!!!!!!!! he said he will be coaching again in the nfl he beat us enough hire him now he knows how to beat pittsburg and get a trophy WAKE UP RANDY GET SOMEONE WITH EXPEREINCE, NO MORE WABABEES

  47. SanDiegoJoe Says:

Find the best talent evaluator available and hire him as GM. Hire Mike Shanahan as coach. He won two Super Bowls in Denver and the Broncos were pretty good every year. Forget about the Broncos collapse this year. Injuries had more to do with it than anything.

  48. charles johnson Says:

browns fans deserve a winning team I think pioli as general manager and parcell as coach would be the way to go and to trade up in the draft and get a running back and a offencive lineman for the otherside would give them a shot at the playoffs and winning team, you owe that to us

  49. doyt w. akom jr Says:

ANYBODY CEPT A BELAPUKE CAST OFF. HE SEND THEM OUT TO TRUCK UP OTHER TEAMS. HECK EVEN JOHN COOPER OVER A BELAPUKE CAST OFF. THATS WHERE ROMEO CAME FROM, DUH!!!!!!!!! I AM FOR MARTY. BILICK IS A MODEL CAST OFF. NOT NESSARY. BRIAN SIPE IS COACHING IN CALLI,????
JUST NOT A BELAPUKE CAST OFF, TEAM KILLLER….PLEASE……

  50. Carbunkle Says:

    Some FACTS:

    Marty Schottenheimer.

Of all NFL head coaches who are available to the Browns today, Marty has coached his teams into the playoffs more than anyone else. 13 times.

These 13 years of playoff appearances stands 4th all-time. Trailing only coaches by the names of Shula, Landry, and Paul Brown.

6th highest winning percentage of all active head coaches.

For a team whose fans became ecstatic over a team which missed the playoffs in 2007, I think that having a coach who has PROVEN he can coach, motivate and cajole his teams to the playoffs on a consistent basis would be the best choice.

  51. Craig Mayhan Says:

Give the Schot a Shot……cause we got nothing to lose…..

  52. larry d. Says:

One overlooked fact is that Schottenheimer seems to bring young qbs like Quinn along pretty well. With Kosar, Brees and Rivers his track record is better than most 'offensive geniuses' like Shanahan.

  53. Eric Says:

Hey where is Stranahan in all of this? Get him and have Marty as your GM! That is the winning combination. If Parcels comes along then woohoo, but I am not holding my breath! Browns need to start thinking things through instead of making brash decisions here. We have 2 months to look at the prospects and make a decision from there. So what are you waiting for ?????? Get Stranahan!!! Goooo…go…go…go…!!!! move it!!

  54. Michael Says:

Since Coward, yes I know I spelled it wrong, doesn't want to coach here or anywhere I believe Mangini would be a good fit. Without a Favre holding him down he did a good job of coaching. Pioli will want a Kings Ransome but is he worth it? I say yes! I've been a Browns fan since the late 50's and long for the good old days. Let's give our fans the chance they deserve. Please forget Shanahan. Remember who he traded for to rebuild his D-Line? Our rejects. There is a reason he is not in Denver anymore. The game has passed him by.

  55. Brian Says:

It is way sad that so many folks want to hire a has been like Marty. We ran the guy out of town once… and it'd happen again… but after 5 more years as the Steeler's b**ches. But what REALLY worries me is the most retarded performer of the crew… Chudzinski. I dunno who will be kept but if he's not running a dry-cleaners in Newark next year then Lerner is too stupid to be allowed to own the team.

  56. len Says:

Marty Schottenheimer would make this team competitive immediately. Bring him back!

  57. jeff Says:

i like the option of rich mckay as gm. if i may remind you, he was an integral part of the Buccaneers rise to being the competitive franchise they have been since the late 90's. as well, he has experience that this organization seriously lacks and needs and this moment. as for a head coach, shanahan is an intriguing option, but i do think he wouldnt be happy not having control over the personnel decisions.all the other options for coach, dont overwhelm me, but i do like the thought of spagnoulo from the giants. reason being,i believe he could turn this defense around. it has been said many times this year that this team is better suited to be a 4-3 rather than 3-4 defense, and i do believe his record speaks for itself since he has been the defensive coordinator with the giants.

  58. Joe (az) Says:

Lerner is a BOOB !!!!!!!!!!! for not calling Marty

  59. John Says:

I would get Pioli for GM because he will have great insite from his in-law Bill Parcells and go get Mangini, Billeck or Shanahan. All these guys have HEAD COACHING experience. This is what are team needs. Of all the vacant teams I believe the Browns have the MOST Talent out there. Would be a very scary team if someone could get them to come together as ONE. NOT ME ME ME ME ME!!!!

  60. Mike Says:

Who cares? The Browns SUCK whoever they get. Never been to a Super Bowl in history of franchise! SUCK

  61. joe Says:

    1. shanahan – yes he has not won since elway rode off into the sunset but he's still been to the mountain top more than the brown's entire organization and the rest of the guys on this list have been combined! and his running schemes will work well in on the frozen tundra on the shores of lake eire on a cold december day.
    2. cower(d) – if the only reason that he doesn't want to coach in cleveland is out of respect to pittsburgh, that's just dumb. if he wants to spend more time with his family then that's smart, only time will tell where his real loyalties lie.
    3. marty – never won the big one but he's not the one who fumbled the ball on the goal line – that was ernest byner – and yes elway drove the length of the field but we weren't the only one's he did that on, the fact is that marty has won everywhere he has gone and cleveland, kansas city and san diego have the same number of championships after he left – zero. maybe the problem wasn;t all marty huh.
    4. man-genius – will he have the same success in his second gig as his mentor did? i doubt it but the experience certainly helps. still he's below .500 and that's with an 8-3 start this year. i have my doubts but if 1-2-3 are gone its probably better than the coordinator route.
    5. spagnuolo/swartz – which is not to say that this can't work but if you go this way, give chud the offensive to lead and let one of these manage the defense, still we don't have anywhere close to the talent in n.y. or tenn. that's where the gm has his work cut out for him.

  62. dazed and confused Says:

    MARTY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  63. idontgetit Says:

MARTY??????????????? You guys need to start an old farts league. You embarrass yourselves whining and begging for a guy who quit on you before and has no desire to come here and coach. If you want him so bad, he will come if you have enough money. You all need to get together and see how much you can come up with and quit trying to spend Lerners money on a washed up has been. He left the Browns branded as chokers in the big games. Let it go.

  64. Oscar Madison Says:

If we can get him we need Marty back!

  65. Craig Says:

    GO BROWNS!!!!!!!!!!!
