Who do you want as head coach and general manager?
Posted December 29th, 2008 by Dan
You're a fan. You pay for tickets and sit through the games. Now, once again, the course of the Cleveland Browns franchise is changing.
If you had your choice who would be the new head coach and who would be the new general manager of the Cleveland Browns?
Let us know in the comments. Just don't say Bill Cowher, he doesn't want to coach in 2009.

Scott Pioli in charge, Josh McDaniels as coach, Eric Mangini as defensive coordinator.
Or
Bill Parcells in charge, whoever he picks is fine.

Jim Tressel…Nuff said
December 29th, 2008 at 1:16 pm
rex ryan as coach floyd reese or scott pioli as gm
December 29th, 2008 at 1:29 pm
Brian Billick as head coach, Eric Mangini as assistant, Scott Pioli as GM
December 29th, 2008 at 1:40 pm
Mangini as HC, Pioli as GM.
December 29th, 2008 at 1:41 pm
1.)Bill Parcells
2.) Scott Piolli
3.) Tom Donahue
Let the head of football operations(one of the above)hire the head coach. The owner should not hire the head coach,as was done with Crennel. Then if the team fails, the head of operations has failed. The head coach should hire his coordinators and coaches . Once Lerner has named The Head Football exec, then his only input should be monetary only.

Mike, you bring up a good point. The Browns don't really have that figurehead guy like Parcells is now in Miami. Hopefully they can get someone to do that, a good GM and a good head coach.
December 29th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
You Buckeye homers are ridiculous!!! Jim Tressel? We need to start winning, and start winning NOW! We dont have time for experiments w/ another Steve Spurrier in the NFL, and definitley not with the Browns! Plus, Tressel cant win in college and you want him at the controls of the Browns? We'd be doing this again in 2 or 3 years. We've got to get it right this time!
December 29th, 2008 at 2:06 pm
How about Mangini? At least he can win. Who knows, Wade Phillips could be out in Dallas and he was a pretty decent Defensive Coordinator under Marty in San Diego for a while.
December 29th, 2008 at 2:07 pm
I agree with Romar, the Browns need to get this coaching thing right the first time around, or firings will occur in the next 3 – 4 years again. I would say we need a Bill Parcels type person as head of football ops, but I don't know who is available.
December 29th, 2008 at 2:08 pm
Brian Billick would be a choice for hc, but I don't know if he would even consider coaching the Browns. Also Scott Pioli for GM would be a good fit.
December 29th, 2008 at 2:09 pm
…or Eric Mangini
December 29th, 2008 at 2:14 pm
Mangini and Pioli are my vote. I could live w/ Parcells but he'll only be here for a year or two. He the NFL version of Larry Brown. Pioli's a young buck, and if successful could be here for a long time.
December 29th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
I think Bernie Kosar should step up and be more pro active for the role of chief of football operations. I mean c'mon I know he cares about what happens with the Browns franchise. He needs to step up and take a stand. He needs to fight for this organization because I know he has the heart, and he definitely knows a lot about football, since he was a former player himself.
December 29th, 2008 at 2:25 pm
Davealan, I think I heard on WKNR on the way into the office that Lerner has no interest in Kosar having a job like that.
Now, as someone who grew up watching Kosar, that would be neat. But I say let Kosar have some kind of role similar to that of Jim Brown and still be able to hire other guys.
December 29th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
Pioli as GM and a hc that has coached in the NFL – NO MORE expermenting with our team —–
December 29th, 2008 at 2:36 pm
hmmm? I actually like the sound of Pioli/Mangini.
December 29th, 2008 at 2:38 pm
Hey I mean c'mon if it did end up being Pioli as GM and Mangini as hc, there would be celebration in the streets of Little Italy.
December 29th, 2008 at 2:49 pm
If Steve Spagnuolo is available,he should be the man.
December 29th, 2008 at 3:05 pm
Turner Gill
Brian Billick
Mike Singletary
December 29th, 2008 at 3:26 pm
Parcells or Pioli, Just allow them to pick their own Coach. GM and Coach have to be on the same page. Mangini got a raw deal with the NYJ, RAC would be an excellent D-Coordinator and Chud should find a job on the west coast. Get an O-Coordinator who emphasises the run.
December 29th, 2008 at 4:01 pm
The Browns need to concentrate on a GM and allow him to choose the coach. Obviously Bill Parcells would be the obvious choice. Other than that I do not know the reputations of the others. Pioli sounds like he may be an interesting choice and McDaniels as coach would not be a bad idea. There are three first time head coaches who are currently in the playoffs. Besides, I am sure if Pioli was the choics that Bill would have some input since they are related by marriage.
December 29th, 2008 at 4:25 pm
If we can't have Cowher, than we NEED to have someone who KNOWS what they are doing with the team. Not someone who we will train here AGAIN and then send onto somewhere else to do an excellent job like we have done in the past.
December 29th, 2008 at 4:28 pm
I would think the GM needs to be hiring his own coach and be active in the process, which Savage was not.
If Parcells becomes available, let him hire whoever he would like. Not many people knew who Tony Sporano was a year ago, and now he's leading the Dolphins into the playoffs.
If Pioli gets the nod, it seems almost a given that the HC would be either Mangini or McDaniels. I'm not sold on either, but I'd prefer Mangini.
Should the Browns go in another route, like hiring Chris Polian, I'm not even sure what would happen.
December 29th, 2008 at 4:28 pm
Kosar???and you call me a Homer…
December 29th, 2008 at 4:40 pm
Bill Parcells
December 29th, 2008 at 4:48 pm
Who do I want as head coach and general manager?
Someone who does more than talk a good game but can GIVE US a team that will at least show up for the game. It has long been time to quit being a training camp for some other team's top player. All Cleveland wants to do is train and build only to have that person go to another team after they have turned out.
Cleveland fans can only hold on for so long!!!!
December 29th, 2008 at 5:09 pm
Coach:
1.McDaniels
2.Garrett
3.Fassel
4.Billick
GM:
1.Pioli
2.Parcells
WE NEED A NEW D COORDINATOR BAD
1.Schwartz from Tennessee
2.Spagnoluo from the Giants
3.Rex Ryan
4.Wade Phillips if let go
December 29th, 2008 at 5:13 pm
Marty Schottenheimer Head Coach
Pioli as General Manager
Eric Magini Defensive Coordinator
Brian Billick Offensive Coordinator
December 29th, 2008 at 5:28 pm
ok. For those of you who think Parcels will leave Miami after brinign athe team from 1-15 to 11-5 your are totally off your rocker. Why are they looking at Billick and Mangini for head coach? THEY WERE FIRED FOR A REASON>>>>THEY WERE NOT WINNING or failed to make the playoffs….seems like we are looking at the same scenario we are trying to get out of……..think long and hard. Why not bring a successfull GM (from NewEngland) and let him decide……his team was not successful for no reason…..The Browns need to really sit back and think about what coaching style will be able to lead the talent we have.
December 29th, 2008 at 5:51 pm
Schottenheimer?? First, 20 years ago we did that and got nothing. Since then he has won nothing. Plus now, the dudes going on 70 years old! Kosar as GM? He has the same experience that I have running an NFL franchise and you people are ready to give the man the keys to the Browns. I know.."But Bernies smart". I dont give a damn. Being a part owner of an AFL team doesn't mean sh#t. This is 2008, not 1988. We surely dont need tired old retreads and inexperience running the show. Ya know Herman Fontenot would be a great coach and maybe Boyce Green as GM.
December 29th, 2008 at 6:15 pm
Parcells may be available. His contract calls for him to work for the current owner of the Dolphins and if that owner sells, which he will probably do before this month is over,Parcells receives a buyout of his contract of 12 million. The new owner of the Fins can always provide more incentive to stay, but Parcells is not locked in ,when not if the current owner sells.Someone had called him the "Larry Brown of Football"—if he stays just two years and gets the right people (GM/Coach)in place;it would be a great move by the Browns to bring him in. He's a winner,as is Larry Brown.
December 29th, 2008 at 6:33 pm
I think whoever we pick for head coach he needs to show some fire on the sidlines and make the players want to win for them cower is'nt an option but i remember always seeing him screaming at people and always so animated crennel was so sedated like he was just waiting to go eat somwhere and tomlin now for the steelers looks like he would beat your tail if you dont play right look at butch davis then crennel both no fire no spark tomlin i never heard of before pittsburg just whoever they pick please make a good choice we need a winning team and how long i have been a browns fan we deserve alot better i was so happy when we came back in 99 and i can only remember 2 good seasons and we were put out of the playoffs early both times.
December 29th, 2008 at 8:11 pm
What about Pete Carroll?
December 29th, 2008 at 8:52 pm
Paul Brown or Sam Rutigliano
December 29th, 2008 at 11:41 pm
could we start with a new owner?
December 30th, 2008 at 1:37 am
What about Mike Martz whose about to lose his job in SF?
December 30th, 2008 at 11:27 am
ANYONE THAT CAN BE A WINNING COACH…..WE ARE TIRED OF HEARING HOW GREAT THE BROWN USE TO BE…..WE WANT TO SEE IT……MY GRANDMOTHER SAIDS BILL PARCEL…..OR SOMEONE LIKE HIM
January 2nd, 2009 at 6:05 am
Some of the candidates are pretty far out there. Why don't we just dig up Paul Brown from the grave let him at it again? Whatever we do unless the personel changes the results will still be the same. Get rid of some of the Cancers on the roster and let's Draft a solid base. Pioli gives us the best chance at it. If he is THE MAN let him pick HIS MAN.
