Which Raven should the Browns target?

Posted February 18th, 2009 by Luke Chandler

With free agency looming on Feb. 27, the Browns will be looking to fill the holes in the wake of another regime change. If history teaches us a lesson, a change in personnel decision making typically brings in a new crop of players from the new boss' old stomping grounds.

New general manager George Kokinis is an experienced pro personnel executive with a deep knowledge of current NFL rosters, and players who were about to become free agents. He would especially know his former team's products best.

The Ravens are going to be faced with several key decisions in free agency, with 3/4 of their starting linebackers ready to hit free agency, along with two starters from their secondary. Of the five players listed, the Ravens may only be able to keep two or three.

So if Kokinis were to rob the Ravens' nest, who should he go after? Submit your vote and let us know!

EDITOR'S NOTE:
When this poll was created last night, Suggs had yet to be franchise tagged. Since the Ravens used their exclusive franchise tag, Suggs cannot negotiate with other teams in free agency. Suggs has since been removed from the poll.  For an explanation of non-exclusive versus exclusive franchise tags, click here.

of there free agents i think he is the only one who might me interested, i also think he would greatly upgrade our secondary

  2. Kentucky Bob Says:

We need a safety, Leonhard is a good young fit… as would be Scott at linebacker. I think Suggs is franchised as of yesterday… and Lewis is too old to invest in, long term. A 2 year deal with Lewis for a little attitude infusion… would be the only way he would make any sense.

Bob, you are correct Suggs was made the Ravens exclusive franchise player yesterday, which means he cannot negotiate with any other team. We have adjusted the poll accordingly.

  4. Daniel Says:

I think McAllister would be helpful to our young secondary. I would not want Ray Lewis playing for the Browns. I could quit watching them. McAllister could sure help McDonald and Eric Wright. I think they're going to be two good corners with maturity.

  5. Larry Says:

Definitely McCallister. This guy has great lateral movement and an "angry" nose for the football. I agree he would do wonders for McDonald and Wright and I have heard he's a lockerroom example. Get him!

  6. Dan Says:

I also went with McAlister. While has been injury prone, Eric Wright could learn a ton from him. And it would allow McDonald to play the slot, which probably suits him best.

Where are the Bart Scott voters at with their comments??

Browns fans, browns fans, browns fans, you guys have been watching bad football for to long! The man with the least votes is the best player. Jim Leonhard is a mad man! If he stays healthy he could be as good as Polamalu or Bob Sanders.

I would sign Kyle Boller to back up Brady Quinn.Because I would trade Derek to Minnesota a playoff contender/Super Bowl hopeful.Looking for a quarterback to get them over the hump. They have a premiere running back in Adrian Peterson,a deep threat at receiver in Bernard Berrian and one of the top defenses in the NFL.Brad Childress is fighting for his job and the owner wants a new stadium.Derek has two years worth of starts in his career. He's a Pro Bowler and has thrown for 29 touchdowns in a season. If the Browns pay the bonus in March they will reap the rewards in April.Anderson's contract would be only 1.5 million in 09'.Trading for Matt Cassel would not only cost a high draft pick but also a long term deal.If Cassel doesn't workout Cha-Ching it's gonna cost them big time.Derek is only signed til 2010 and most of his guaranteed money has been paid by the Browns. There are other young quarterbacks in free agency available plus a couple of veterans. The Browns need draft picks to add speed and playmakers to the defense.GO BROWNS!!!

  9. Jay C Says:

I would sign Jason Brown Off. Center 6'3 320 lbs from the Ravens . Maybe check out Off Right Tackle Ray Willis from Seattle 6'6 315. That way Shaffer could be moved inside to guard. Upgrade – update the lines. DEf side look at DE's Chris Cantry from Dallas 6'7 300 lbs and Igor Olshansky 6'6 310 lbs. Will we see Nose tackle William Joeseph 6'5 310 from da Raiders come here to back up Rogers in the middle ? All 26 to 27 years old except 29 year old Joeseph. Is it time to release Tackle Tucker ? Browns traded for a 4-3 DE last year , admit it , trade him again. Fix the lines. Fix the running game on both sides of the ball. Do it this way you can draft LB's , Safety , WR or RB.

Hey Bleed Black&Gold,When Dwan Landry was back at safety he played well too until his injury. Then Leonard came in and he's played well since being put in the starting line up.What my point you ask? They have one thing in common they both play next to Ed Reed. That's why these no name players come in and do well.I'm resigning my safety Sean Jones before I try to sign Leonard. The only thing holding up Sean Jones was his knee. Two consecutive years with 5 interception and 4 this past season with a bad knee.He had 111 tackles in 06' and 96 in 07'.He's only 26 and in the prime of his career.

  11. Tbomb Says:

    Yeah, Kentucky,Lewis.He's a killer. Literally! I wouldn't touch him without a taser!

  12. phillips Says:

Scott…simply because its the most realistic under the Browns salary cap considerations…still in his prime, and a mean hitter. Leonhard would be a nice fit as well…but there'll be some decent safeties available in the second round, and I don't see any ILB's jumping off the charts…first rounder should be an outside linebacker, or if for some reason WR Crabtree falls to them.

  13. Tbomb Says:

That sound you heard today, phillips, was Crabtree falling.
