It appears the Browns are waiting for the dust to settle on trades and free agents. The Browns plan has to be a 3 year plan and many of the free agents and some current players no longer have the legs for 3 more years. Allowing teams to "pork up" on high cost players only enhances the Browns opportunities. Some teams will be full and unwilling to pay out more bucks for additional players, while other teams are waiting to fill their needs from the draft. Some teams are playing their hand for draft day, allowing the Browns an idea of who they need to pick or if they are ready to trade a pick. I still feel the Browns have trades on the table ready for draft day, when other teams realize the player they need will not be available (such as QB, DE or WR), so they will have to pull the trigger with the Browns.

Pretty big jump that Robaire Smith is the automatic starter. He is coming off an Achilles heel tear, an injury that ended Jamir Miller's career.

If the Browns were thinking about contending in 09 they should have invested in now N.Y. Giant Chris Cantry ( Cowboys ) and now Cowboy Igor O. (Charger). Two big DE's that could have played with NT Rogers. With young backups going into their 3rd years. Smith and Williams both could be traded for what ever we could get ... 2nd and 4th picks maybe ? But that ship has sailed and how can you sell this team to a free agent ? Is that why we are seeing back ups - special team players coming to Cleveland ? Det. Lions as bad as they were in 08 have a brighter future with Swartz at the helm.
