WOIO says Browns to draft Crabtree or Sanchez
Posted April 18th, 2009 by Luke Chandler
19 Action News is reporting that the Browns intend to select either Southern California quarterback Mark Sanchez or Texas Tech wide receiver Michael Crabtree with the fifth overall selection in next Saturday's NFL Draft.
As the report mentions, despite two starting caliber quarterbacks, the Browns are not interested in either Derek Anderson or Brady Quinn. The selection of Crabtree would likely happen to offset the potential trade of Braylon Edwards.
In my opinion, this is rumor is half valid and half smoke-screen. The Browns rumored interest in Sanchez could be used as a ploy to get a trade parter, such as the Broncos, to move up for him. Sanchez has gone on visits with teams like the Redskins, Broncos, and Jets who are in a safer region of the first round where the money invested is less dangerous. Rumors have the Browns interested in moving out of the top ten, plus they would likely get another mid-round choice out of a potential deal. The Browns have been spending the offseason thus far trying to recoup lost draft picks.
The valid portion of this seems to be the Crabtree section. If the Browns are shopping Edwards and do have the framework of a deal in place, Crabtree is the most logical pick. Crabtree is NFL ready and has the makeup of a big-play wide receiver in the NFL.
If the Browns do move Edwards, it would make sense to wait till draft day to do so. If they pull the trigger on a trade with Edwards too soon, they leave themselves open to the chance that another team will jump ahead of them at five and select the former Red Raider. The dropoff from Crabtree to the second group of wide receivers is great, and none are worth the fifth overall pick. It wouldn't even be a shock if the Browns selected Crabtree at five, then made the Edwards trade official.

Classic if not obvious. Browns are desparately trying to create interest from potential trade partners for their 5th pick. They will not be able to trade out of 5, and they will take Curry or one of the top two O Lineman if they are available, not Sanchez or Crabtree.

If the Browns draft a QB, it will be definitive proof of my prescient posts on this matter.Has anybody else mentioned the possibility of trading both of our QB's? On another note, while Crabman may be the top WR, I don't believe "the dropoff..to the second group of WR's is all that great"….Maclin, Britt, Hicks may all prove to be better pros.

What are the Browns going to do ? #5 pick keep or trade ? Edwards keep or trade ? Jenkins – Curry – Orkapo – Crabtree . All four mentioned as # 1 picks.

If the Browns trade Quinn, they may as well pack up the team and move to Chattanooga. This "new" organization is such a joke, they've become the laughingstock of the entire country.

the new organization is not a joke. They have what their predecessors lacked…the courage to start anew, and build a good, young team over 3 years.

Courage to start anew ? What ? Are you new to Cleveland ? Pain – misery will be your pals. Golly , I was going to give you a history lessen but it is too sad. The Browns have lost a generation of fans , where did you come from ? The last excitement we had was with Bernie in the . . . late 80's ole lord I'm a getting old. Will I have enough time to wait for the Browns to become respectable again ? I think I might have to become a Det. Lions fan . Their team will be better over the next 3 years. I'd bet you a Maries Pizza from Wadsworth . Yum Yum
