"This is San Diego State. It's not USD, it's not UCLA or a position with the Browns. I was born and raised in this community. I grew up dreaming of playing Aztec football. And I got to do it with some great coaches, some great men who remain friends of mine to this day."

With the Browns, Sipe was named NFL MVP in 1980. In 10 seasons with Cleveland, Sipe threw for 23,713 yards and 154 touchdowns. He infamously threw the "Red Right 88" pass in the 1981 playoffs against Oakland.

No, this isn't a story about an egomaniac wide receiver (yes, I know that given the current tenor of today's NFL, that is shocking). No, it's just a story from ESPN the Magazine on wide receiver Braylon Edwards learning about the Hollywood life.

For most receivers, the story would probably be on hanging out with celebrities, boozing it up and scoring some women. Not our man Edwards, though. Oh, no. He's merely meeting producers, screenwriters and learning the background before he comes to the forefront of the movie business. (You see that play on words? Background, forefront? Oh man…)

Notes…
Carlos Holmes of the Dayton Daily News has this story on Lawrence Vickers, one of the unsung players of the offense. Wacky fact: Holmes and blogger Luke Chandler share the same nickname: Big C. Crazy!

Chris Pokorny of Dawgs by Naturebegins his preview of Browns training camp. Good stuff from Pokorny. I'm not a big fan of training camp previews, but this is well done.

It's not Browns related, but Akron Zips blogger Mike "Don't spell it R-a-z-o-r" Rasor clearly is getting antsy for August camp to begin. As Zips fan, I am as well. I like the guy personally, but head coach JD Brookhart has to be feeling some heat heading into this season.

Oh yeah, Kelly Holcomb retired.

Not much going on lately with the Cleveland Browns. This is probably the slowest time of the year for football news.

However, that doesn't mean the Browns are safe from injuries. You probably know by now about starting right guard Ryan Tucker breaking his right hip last week. That just sounds painful. It will cost him two months, during which he's been told by doctors to not sit down too much. Seriously, I know it's a physical sport, what on a football field during practice leads to a broken hip? It's not like Ted Washington is still around.

Anyway, this shouldn't be much of a concern for the team. Tucker was a nice little bonus last season moving over from tackle. The job will now go to either Seth McKinney or Rex Hadnot, who was signed in the offseason. I loved the signing of Hadnot. He was arguably the best player on the Dolphins' offense last season, and it was a surprising to see him come here to be a backup.

Notes…
Former star cornerback Hanford Dixon was busted Saturday for drunk driving. It's his second drunk driving charge since October. Dixon refused a Breathalyzer test, so his license was suspended immediately, which could last one to five years. In his October arrest, Dixon blew a .17. The legal limit is .08. That's quite a bit of booze.

Phil Savage recently spoke at a Little League Football foundation and answered questions about scouting. Some interesting stuff if you're like hearing about the scouting life.
