Ten days of Tribe.

Posted July 28th, 2008 by Dave Wiley

So, you go on vacation for ten days and apparently this is what happens with the Indians.

Since the all star break (ten days), it appears the Indians went 4-9; their only series win against lowly Seattle.  This on the heels of a four game sweep of the first place Tampa Bay Devil Rays and a reason to make me sweat it out with no sports all through the ten day vacation.

Casey Blake shows up on the Sports Center highlights, but is wearing Dodger Blue.

Jeremy Sowers gets his first win and has another strong outing, a positive sign!

Aaron Laffey goes to the minors?  The wheels must have come off there!

Cliff Lee notches his 13th qnd 14th wins.

Cleveland is still in last place.

Andy Marte’s batting average still starts with a one.

Fausto Carmona returns only to look like the old Jeremy Sowers.

It’s good to be home.

Yea, same old, same old. I'm so sick of hearing the Tribe's "revisionist history" of blaming injuries for this year's debacle. The team was losing from Day 1 this season!!! No injuries back then, remember! As the losses mounted, Shapiro & Co. said "we don't evaluate until Game #40." Well, Markie, the season was lost by that point.

And here's the problem: Cleveland is TOO SLOW to react, and is not proactive at all. YES, a whole season CAN be won or lost in April….and this year's squad proved it. There was no sense of urgency to win; Wedge spouted his drivel about the "long grind, blah blah"….while the season went down the drain in the first 30 games. We had the chance to "may hay" and get a lead, as other teams started slowly. But NOOOO, we just had to keep the sorry losing pace with Detroit and Chicago!

Until this team and front office develops a WINNING MINDSET from the get-go each year, they'll never finish first again. Shapiro set the losing tone in the off-season with his total lack of production, which is now well-documented. The fans and media should've applied more pressure, because we ALL saw the offensive deficiencies. How Shapiro did not is a mind-boggling mystery.
