Answer to Budget Cuts – Sell Space on Tests

March 25, 2009

This is a genius idea. As this article describes, a teacher started selling advertising space on his tests. To think of all the money I could have made.
Not only that, this is a great idea for an HR Department. Of course, I can see an employment lawyer asking to place an ad at the bottom [...]

Book Review on Ethical Dilemmas: The Priesthood Crisis in the Catholic Church

March 17, 2009

Recently, I received a notice that the Oregon Province of the Society of Jesus had declared bankruptcy. As someone who attended Jesuit schools for 8 years, this news saddened me, especially when combined with the parish closings in Northeast Ohio.
In that context, I would recommend a 2000 book by Donald B. Cozzens entitled “The Changing [...]

Public Sector Grows

March 14, 2009

March 7, 2009

Given my interest in generational interest, I was intrigued by an email from the folks at Subway that mentioned a casting call for baby boomers with interesting stories of pursuing their dreams. For those with such dreams, the information from Boom Casting says that:

RIF Layoff Toolkit

March 7, 2009

A sign of the times is concern in HR over RIFs and layoffs. The State of Arizona Human Resources Department offers a RIF Layoff Toolkit, which contains sample letters and a great deal of other useful infomration.
The site will probably be most useful to those in the public sector.

A Public Sector Blog with an International Flavor

March 4, 2009

Most of the blogs I tend to read on human resources are US based blogs. I guess that is because HR is so dependent on the law and legal issues, and my own research interests so assessment focused, that I tend to concentrate on US issues.
However, I have been recently reading Colin Talbot’s Whitehall Watch [...]
