New Haven Decision on Firefighter Promotions

by Dennis Doverspike on June 29, 2009

in Public Sector HR, Selection

The New Haven decision is in. I guess you never want to say a predictable decision, but it probably was:

The Supreme Court ruled 5-4 that white firefighters in New Haven, Conn., were unfairly denied promotions because of their race. The ruling reverses a decision that high court nominee Sonia Sotomayor endorsed as an appeals-court judge. From news accounts, it does appear the decision was made based on the Civil Rights Act.
