One of my faithful readers told me my answers were too long. He said, “Dad, when you’re asked what time is it? You give a three part answer, starting with Let’s consider the function of the second hand.” He was right and I was just glad he did not mention how I break out my Steven Hawking PowerPoint Slides. After great reflection, I realized it is because I have now spent 50 years in school without a break (8 years with the Jesuits). So I blame it on the educational system.

Human Resource Management deals with the complexities of human behavior and human relationships in organizations. Managing human resources requires knowledge and skill in a diverse set of fields ranging from psychology to compensation to employment law. As with most professional occupations, the field of human resources is one marked by rapid change, making it difficult to stay current and up-to-date on recent developments.

In deciding to create this blog, our goal was to do our small part to attempt to contribute to the ongoing conversation on the management of people at work. In order to do so, we hope to share our views through short reports and commentary on critical issues and current research in the areas of human resource management, personnel recruitment and testing, and organizational business consulting and coaching.

Our intent is that this will be an interactive blog. We hope you will share with us your questions and concerns, and if you do, we will do our best to provide you with answers or to find experts who can answer your questions. Feel free to post your questions as comments or to email your questions to us.

The intended audience is anyone involved in managing human resources, from the entrepreneur running a small business to the VP of Human Resources in a large organization to the assessment professional in the public sector. We also hope to cover everything from global issues to unique challenges faced in the Great Lakes and Northeast areas of the United States. Of course, as we go along, we may narrow our goals, but initially we hope to start with a very wide focus.

Thank you for this opportunity and we hope you join us for parts of this journey. Pam V. and Dennis D.
