Kyle Smith signs with Indians organization

Former Kent State right handed pitcher Kyle Smith (Louisville) has signed to a deal with the Indians.  The Indians selected Smith in the 20th round of the June draft.  Smith went 4-2 with a 4.79 ERA in 11 starts in 2009.  He was bothered by shoulder problems for much of the season.  Smith was the winning pitcher [...]

Football announces game times

June 25, 2009

Kent State announced the times for its football games today, including four night contests.
The Golden Flashes open the season Thursday, Sept. 3, playing host to Coastal Carolina. Their homecoming game will be Saturday, Oct. 10 at 3:30 p.m. against Bowling Green.

Three former Flashes on new team in Avon

Former Kent State right handed pitcher J.J. Pacella has joined former Golden Flashes Andrew Davis and Drew Saylor playing for the Lake Erie Crushers in Avon, Ohio.  The Crushers compete in the Frontier League and are an independent team.  Davis is playing third base and batting .296 with 2 HR and 19 RBI while Saylor [...]

DeAndre Haynes article

Interview with new MAC Commissioner

The Plain Dealer recently interviewed new Mid-American Conference Commissioner Jon Steinbrecher.  Steinbrecher, the former Commissioner of the Ohio Valley Conference and Mid-Continent Conference, took over on May 1.  "What I want to make sure we're doing, at virtually every meeting, basketball is the topic of conversation," Steinbrecher said.  Read the full Q and A here.

Dix Stadium to host 'Football University' this weekend

Flashes selected in the MLB Draft

Kent State baseball has had seven players selected in the first-year player draft, tying the 1994 class for the most draftees ever.
Kent State right handed pitcher Brad Stillings was selected by the Minnesota Twins with the No. 222 pick.
Left handed relief pitcher Jon Pokorny (Parma Normandy) was picked at No. 286 by the Milwaukee Brewers.

Women's Basketball commitment

June 9, 2009

Cincinnati Walnut Hills junior center Tayler Stanton has orally committed to play for the Kent State women’s basketball program, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Stanton averaged 9.1 points, 9.4 rebounds and 2.2 blocks last season. She also considered Seton Hall, Toledo, Bowling Green and Youngstown State.
