WACO, Texas -Kent State moved the ball up and down the field all night, but had little to show for it on the scoreboard in a 31-15 loss to Baylor Saturday (Oct. 3) at Floyd Casey Stadium.  The Golden Flashes totaled 424 yards of offense including the second straight 100-yard rushing performance by sophomore Jacquise Terry.

The Bears took a 21-7 lead into halftime after KSU got on the board on its opening possession.  Junior receiver Leneric Muldrow caught a backwards pass from Giorgio Morgan and fired a pass of his own, 35 yards to Jameson Konz for the game's first touchdown.  Two possessions later the Flashes had an opportunity to get the lead back taking the ball down inside the Baylor 10 yard line.  However, a Dri Archer touchdown run was called back on a penalty and a Freddy Cortez field goal attempt was blocked.

The Flashes were flagged for 10 first half penalties.

Trailing 28-7 in the third quarter, Terry dashed 61 yards to the end zone getting a key downfield block from Tyson Goode.  Following the Terry touchdown, KSU took the ball inside the Baylor 20 on the next three possessions but had no points to show for it.  The Flashes' defense made the next big play when Aaron Hulltackled Baylor running back Terran Ganaway in the end zone for a safety.  KSU quickly took the ball into Bear territory once again, but a Terry fumble gave the momentum back to Baylor.

Junior safety Brian Lainhart led both sides with 14 tackles.

The Golden Flashes put their 1-0 MAC record on the line Saturday, Oct. 10, hosting Bowling Green on Homecoming weekend.

Well, while I consider "moral victories" to be "loser talk," this is actually closer than I thought it would be. Definitely a good sign to see the offense doing something, but sad to see the same old penalty problems and turnovers back. Will be interesting to see how they do against BG next week. Come on KSU…WIN ON HOMECOMING for once!

It's the Doug Martin Trademark: Step 1. assemble a team with talent at or above almost every team on the schedule; Step 2. don't prepare them, don't lead them, don't recognize when adjustments need to be made during the game.

It's a sad never-ending story. The players deserve better than this. Kent State deserves better than this.

There's more talent on this year's team than in years past with the stepped up play of MANY underclassmen, some of which are true freshmen.

Spencer Keith has played with rare poise and confidence for a freshman QB. Tyshon Goode has stepped up and played well at the WR position, and fellow freshman Dri Archer has helped fill the void along with Jacquise Terry from the loss of Eugene Jarvis at RB.

Senior H-back Jameson Konz with a TD catch in each of the last two games and TE Jon Simpson are beginning to open up the middle of the field with their pass catching ability.

You add in the leadership by Brian Lainhart at safety and the intensity of Cobrani Mixon at LB along with the DL stepping up and putting pressure on opposing QBs and you have an aggressive, improving defense.

This team right here and now has the talent to win a lot of games. If they can reduce the penalties and improve the blocking in the kicking game, they have the making of a legitimate contender for the MAC championship. It's there for the taking.

MrBaker….all true….but you're skirting around the main problem: Doug Martin and his staff. Kent has the talent to win the rest of thier games. Sadly, they have the coaching resource to lose every damn one of them.
