According to Dave Carducci at the Record Courier, 6-3 wing DeShawn Clay has committed to play for the Kent State men's basketball program on Monday.
Clay is from Gary, Indiana and is currently playing at Christian Life Center Academy in Houston Texas.
Steve Hare, recruiting expert, from the Kent Sports Report comments, "Clay averaged 18.4 points and 9.6 rebounds for Gary's West High in 2008-09. He was planning to go to Baylor after the prep school deal, but that didn't work out."

Hey Mike! From what I have been reading, it really appears Coach Ford and his staff have put together an outstanding recruiting class for 2010-2011. The young men from Massillon Jackson, Cincinnati, if I'm not mistaken Chicago, and now from Gary, Indiana, plus Scooter Johnson waiting in the wings, leave a very good impression for the future! Do you have any opinions on these recruits, and there potential contributions to our program? Keep up the great work!
Hey Bill,
I'm very excited about what Geno and his staff are doing in recruiting. It never hurts to have solid local products like the young man from Massillon Jackson. They have also targeted long perimeter players who can play multiple spots as evidenced by Gaines, Guyton. In DeAndre Nealy, the Flashes have a forward that can step in from day one and have a huge impact the team, mostly with his defensive and shot blocking skills. Clay appears like he can really shoot the basketball, which the Flashes will need with the loss of McKee and Evans. All these recruits have me thinking ahead to next year's possible rotation.

I`ve heard a lot of good things about Greene. I live in South Florida so I don`t get to see him play. From what I read he is solid around the basket and is a big body! Am I being accurate to say if Kent is to be successful this year the post players must have solid year? It seems the perimeter players are very good but underneath is a work in progress? Go KSU!
Hey Fred,
I believe you are accurate in saying that KSU's post players must have a solid year for Kent to be successful. Last year it was tough. All the post players were lacking experience. Parks had not played much in his career, Simpson was new, Greene was a freshman, Henry-Ala was new, Grimsley, etc. It is encouraging to see some of those players really getting better from last season and knowing their roles (Greene, Simpson, Henry-Ala). Last year was the first time in the last 11 seasons that KSU lost the rebounding margin. It is very encouraging to see the evolution of Justin Greene. Coach Ford spoke last week about the team jokes around that he looks like he should be playing at the YMCA. He has an "old man game." He doesn't run real fluid, he's not a great athlete and he is kind of sloppy. However, he has great hands, a soft touch and can go over either shoulder in the post. From everything I have heard and seen, he is also a gym rat, always trying to get better. He'll have the chance to be one of the most productive post players Kent has had as he continues to get better. South Florida? Are you going to get a chance to check out the Flashes tomorrow night?
Unfortunately no. I live in Miami and Tampa is 3 and 1/2 hours away. I had hoped to go see them a couple of months ago when the schedule was announced but things just did not work out. I was really bummed last week when I found out I could not attend. I even wanted to go to Boca and watch the women but I had obligations at the school where I teach. Sooo, double bummer. See what you can do to get Kent down to FAU, FIU, or Miami next season. My son attends UM and that would be great!!! Go Flashes!
