Phil Steele's Preseason All-MAC Teams

Legendary college football personality Phil Steele has been unveiling his preseason all-conference teams over the last two weeks, with the Mid American Conference being featured on Monday.

Kent State featured 16 players over Steele's four All-MAC teams. One of those 16, senior FS Brian Lainhart, was named to the Preseason All-American fourth team. Lainhart led the MAC and was fourth nationally with seven interceptions (one shy of the school record), and his 15 career picks is currently tops in the country. The school record for career interceptions is 19.

The offense failed to place anyone on the first team, but the defense was well represented, filling three of the 12 slots (preseason teams include four defensive lineman, four linebackers and four defensive backs). Senior middle linebacker Cobrani Mixon, junior cornerback Josh Pleasant and Lainhart received top honors. Junior punter Matt Rinehart also made the first team as the top punter in the conference.

Sixth-year running back Eugene Jarvis, who no doubtetly would have been a first teamer had it not been for a lacerated kidney and a lost 2009 season, garnered a spot on the second team. Joining Jarvis is sophomore wide receiver Tyshon Goode and two-time All-MAC defensive end Monte Simmons.

Sophomore quarterback Spencer Keith and senior defensive lineman Quinton Rainey were named to the third team.

Senior outside linebacker Dorian Wood was the lone flash placed on the fourth team.

Seniors Anthony Bowman and Leneric Muldrow made the "Honorable Mentions" list as kick and punt returners, respectively. Joining them as honorable mentions were senior strong safety Dan Hartman, senior defensive end Zach Williams, sophomore kicker Freddy Cortez and junior center Chris Anzevino.

Anzevino was also one of 37 players selected to be on the Rimington Trophy 2010 Spring Watch List. The Rimington trophy is given out annually to the best center in the country.

Anzevino did not allow a sack in 839 snaps last season.

More on Anzevino and the history of the Rimington Trophy can be found here.

Phil Steele's annual college football preview magazine will hit newsstands June 8.
