Softball beats Akron, plays tonight

The Kent State softball team defeated Akron this morning 3-1 in the MAC Tournament behind the pitching of junior Kylie Reynolds.  Reynolds struck out 12 and became the all-time leader in strikeouts at Kent State, passing former teammate Brittney Robinson.  Kent State will play later tonight vs. what looks to be Western Michigan, with them leading Ohio 6-0 [...]

Softball postponed

The Kent State softball team will now open MAC Tournament play tomorrow morning at 10A.M. vs. the University of Akron at Firestone Stadium in Akron.  If the Golden Flashes win they will play again at 6P.M., if they lose they will play at 8P.M. on Thursday.

Softball begins MAC Tournament

The MAC East Champion Kent State softball team (24-24, 15-6) will begin the 2009 MAC Tournament against Akron (32-22, 11-10)  at Firestone Stadium in Akron.  The No. 2 seeded Golden Flashes will take on the No. 7 Zips at 5P.M. to begin the eight team, four day, double elimination tournament.  Since 2004 KSU is 14-2 vs. Akron.  Here is [...]

KSU introduces Centennial Cup with BGSU

BASEBALL
The Golden Flashes had a wild weekend series vs. Bowling Green.  After losing in Friday's game 9-2, Kent State came back to sweep a doubleheader on Saturday.  Down early 7-3, KSU won in the 10th inning on a walk off three run homer by Anthony Gallas  to complete the victory 12-9.  That momentum propelled KSU to a victory in game [...]

Elton Alexander has a brief story on new KSU recruit Justin Manns. Manns is from Winston Salem, North Carolina and played at Owens Community College in Toledo.  Manns only played one year of high school basketball after growing three to four inches prior to his senior season.

Stillings picks up another award

Junior pitcher Brad Stillings was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association Pitcher of the Week for his no hit performance on April 10 at Toledo.
Also, from the softball team Jess Carmichael was named MAC East Player of the Week for last week's games.  Helping Kent State to a 4-0 record, the sophomore shortstop hit .455 [...]
