House Hunters: HGTV

I am OBSESSED with this show, I love it!  The show is described as: House Hunters takes viewers behind the scenes as individuals, couples and families learn what to look for and decide whether or not a home is meant for them. Focusing on the emotional experience of finding and purchasing a new home, each episode shows the process as buyers search for a home.

Here is how the show typically plays out:  There is a person/ couple looking for a house.  The couple reveals their budget, their Realtor shows them three properties, they always buy a house.   This show is especially interesting to me because of the following;

1. How can someone select from just three properties!!!

2. None of the houses seem "perfect" – they all have something that is just not right – why wouldn't the couple wait until what they really want came on the market.

3. They always looks at houses within the "budget" and make offers close to the asking price.  While I think this is nice – I don't think it is realistic or I am a nut and go around insulting people. (Both are def possible)

4. You can see sale prices from around the country/ world (House Hunters International – Its counterpart that I also love)  I think it is amazing to see what different markets bear.

5. How luck we are – the episode I was watching over the weekend was in Tokyo.  The guy was living in 300 SF and paying $1200/ Month.  He chose a house that was 835 SF for $745,000!!!  RIDIC  The condo was a one bedroom/ one bathroom unit in a complex. While the condo was nice, everything about it was SMALL!  Closet space being the most obvious to me – he was so excited by big storage space that just seemed small.  (Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.) The show reminds me how lucky and affordable our market is and how good a deal it is to buy a house in our area.

I HIGHLY recommend watching it, HGTV Weeknights at 9:00.
