The Cleveland Clinic is thinking about expanding in Las Vegas. Cleveland's Crains magazine is reporting, "This Wednesday, Las Vegas City Council will consider entering into an exclusive negotiation agreement with the Clinic that would expire Nov. 29, 2010. During that time, the Clinic is expected to complete a feasibility study for expanding on five parcels of land totaling 12 acres within the Symphony Park development, according to documents filed with the city of Las Vegas.
The expansion, which would include a “medical care and/or research facility” and a parking structure, would take place adjacent to the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health, which opened in Symphony Park in July, according to the documents."

I can't help but feel this is an iffy decision. While donated land and city incentives are always a plus, Las Vegas seems to be a mess lately. With tourism down and the city showing negative growth, it seems the CC would go into more dynamic areas, especially in cities that have more abundant resources. (ie: Electricity and water) I am not an expert in that area and have not looked at the needs of the city but I can't help but feel that there is a better western location for the CC to select. (ie: Colorado, New Mexico, Texas)
The Clinic does incredible things and they obviously have had a lot of success. I am sure the powers that be know something I do not BUT I can't imagine any city not providing strong incentives to lure such an asset……….
