RUMORS: Downtown Restaurant Explosion

by Tia on November 6, 2009

in Rumors

THESE ARE JUST RUMORS and HAVE NOT been verified!

1. There is a restaurant downtown that is going into where the irish pub (formerly The Grotto) use to be!  That is excellent news, the restaurant was just about ready to go prior to its owner passing. It is supposedly scheduled to open in 2 weeks!

2. This same restaurant will open another location in West Akron – Across from Summit Mall!!  Watch out Fairlawn/ Montrose - here comes some serious competition!

UPDATE:  Hi All!!!  As Geddy & Rob brought to my attention – one restaurant does not make for an explosion, they are correct!  BUT – what I poorly wrote and should have said was that there is a local downtown restaurant opening another two locations.  A pub in the Valley (where the Grotto use to be) and a restaurant located across from the mall in the Four Points.  This would be 4 locations for this restaurant and for a local restaurant vs a chain – this is incredible and could be considered an explosion.  WORK WITH ME!!!!   Sorry for the confusion!

UPDATE II: Pub Bricco opens today!!! (11/17/09)   The Mr was lucky and was invited to a pre-opening menu tasting at PB.  He said it was good!!!  Burgers, chicken samigaes (sandwiches), and turkey burgers – sounds a little like Metro Burger.  BUT – The Mr gave it two thumbs up!

1) Where was The Grotto? You're not talking about The Valley, are you? If so, that's, obviously, not downtown.

2) What restaurant is rumored to be moving in?

3) I would hardly call one additional downtown restaurant an "explosion".

lol have to agree with Rob, when I saw the title of downtown restaurant explosion, I was thinking at least 3 new ones. Also, I'm not quite sure how this one restaurant across from summit mall is going to give a ton of competition to the montrose area with all of its cuisine. hmm but i do miss the days that Rizzi's used to have a restaurant inside of Summit Mall.

Ahh, now that makes sense. My guess is Bricco?

Also, could you get us any information on when the Ohio Brewing Company is to open their new brewpub in the Kaiser building across from Canal Park?

It is funny you should ask – here is the scoop. (I just got it myself)
Ohio Brewing Company – Moving Locations
Ohio brewing opening soon. Pub reopening as OBC's Pub & Grille at 323 s. Main St. in downtown Akron, brewery has moved just several blocks from there at 457 S. High St in the historic Selle building. The brewery will still be known as Ohio Brewing Company. The pub will be located across street from Canal Park home Of Akron Aeros. Pub will feature around 20 beers on tap including all of Ohio Brewing beers. Electic lunch and dinner menus will be available for patrons.

No word on a date but I will work on it and "report" back!

This rumor is true. Dave Glenny is opening Pub Bricco down in the valley. It is scheduled to open Tuesday Nov. 17th.
Will feature some great burger choices *beef, turkey, veggie, salmon* and a great selection of wines and beer.
