I was recently reading an article titled, Demise of the Real Estate Sales Person. The article was interesting because it brought attention to what everyone is now seeing as obvious, people are sick of bad customer service from their Realtor and with all the info online – why bother. It's sad but true and worse yet – it applies to every service industry. "Anything you can do – I can do better".
I have been guilty of bad service myself! So – here are just SOME ideas of what I think would help the industries image and make people need/ want their Realtor;
- Offices that have GOOD support people!!!! I have been overwhelmed at times by the amount of business in my lap (I am being serious – no snickering) and have needed office support. I do think that most real estate offices do not emphasis the importance of GOOD marketing and general staff. (CBRE was excellent at that – they have amazing marketing and map people).
- This is a full time business. If you are thinking about getting into real estate as a part time job – STAY HOME! This is not a part time industry and you are doing a disservice to yourself and the industry as a whole. MOST PEOPLE (not all) can not juggle 10 jobs at once and it is an expensive endeavore that offers little in compensation.
- Realtors – respond. When we were selling our house (buying too) I found myself upset a number of time with our Realtor because of no communication. I have been VERY guilty of this. I assume since there is no news or I am waiting – my client doesn't need to hear from me. WRONG - this is what people are paying us for – the b***ch work.
- General Public – We can find good comparables quicker than you (most of the time), know what banks expect and can navigate you through the process quickly, guard you from the seller or buyer (people are crazy), market your property to typically more people, have a bigger Rolodex of prospects, and the list goes on.
Yes – anyone can go online and find a house, building, piece of land BUT how you end up at the finish line is all about the journey…..
